About the Program

The HFMA Annual Conference is the industry’s premier event for hands-on learning where executives from across the nation gather to solve complex issues, interact with peers and industry leaders, and get the tools they need to influence change and address challenges. 

This year's programming features new learning tracks and session formats that will amplify the power of networking and collaboration to facilitate deeper learning and greater innovation. Flexible learning pathways allow you to customize your conference experience to meet your learning objectives.

Choose from two learning pathways and eight content-focused learning tracks when you arrive in Las Vegas. Sessions are identified in both the printed and online agendas by track, session type, and learning level. Use the advanced search tool in the online program to search for sessions in each category and click on the star to add that session to your personal itinerary. Be sure to login to view your itinerary across all devices. Start by choosing your learning pathway:

  • Cohort—Spend the entire day exploring, discussing, and obtaining insight into a single topic. Cohorts will be offered on Monday and Tuesday. They'll kick off with a featured speaker and then move to more focused discussion sessions designed to enable you to collaboratively create actionable solutions. 
  • Freestyle—Move as you wish from session to session across presentation topic or styles throughout the day.

  • Reducing Total Cost of Care—Explore affordability initiatives, identification of instances of overuse and inefficiency, and highlights cost-saving opportunities; efforts to support the Triple Aim.
  • Creating a Consumer-Centric Healthcare Delivery System and Revenue Cycle—Examine efforts to empower the patient to make informed choices, be involved in the decision-making process for her/his care and, create an understanding of upfront costs by way of transparent pricing and effective patient financial communications.
  • Business Intelligence & Analytics—Explore the need for analytics and data, as well as the strategic application of data and data analytics tools to improve organizational performance.
  • Industry Updates—Addresses accounting, finance, auditing, and revenue cycle industry, legal, compliance, legislative and regulatory updates from the entry-level practitioner to the seasoned professional. 
  • Payment Trends and Models—Examines the management and implementation of alternative payment models, including patient population management, resource allocation, and contracting challenges and opportunities.
  • Leadership and Organizational Capability—Discover the process improvements shaping organizational change.
  • Trends & Innovation—Explore leading trends and concepts that are reshaping the healthcare business model. Think new, exciting and different!
  • Traditional sessions—60 or 75 minutes, covering a variety of topics, best practices, updates, and overviews
  • Panel discussions—Peer-to-peer discussion by successful organizations, with an opportunity to explore topics in greater detail and in relation to your organization
  • Workshops—Three-hour deeper dives into specific strategic topics
  • Case studies—Explore a real-world situation led by an expert facilitator, and create solutions and actionable plans

Each session is assigned a learning level based on the difficulty of the educational content. Select sessions suited to your knowledge and experience and review appropriate prerequisites.

  • Advanced—Designed to develop in-depth expertise in a topic or knowledge area
  • Basic—Designed to provide a general understanding of a topic or knowledge area.
  • Intermediate—Designed to develop a working knowledge of a topic or knowledge area or build on a basic curriculum.
  • Overview—Designed to provide a general review of a subject area from a broad perspective; appropriate for professionals at all organizational and knowledge levels.
  • Update—Designed to provide a general review of new developments for participants with a background in the subject area who desire to keep current.

Total CPE hours for Conference Workshops, General/Keynote Session, Early Riser Sessions, Featured Speaker Sessions, and Cohort/Freestyle Sessions:  21.0 CPEs

Prerequisites (if required) are listed for individual sessions; prework required is “none” unless indicated for the session.

The CPE Field of Study for sessions is Specialized Knowledge and Applications, unless otherwise indicated in each specific session description.

The Healthcare Financial Management Association Educational Foundation is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. State boards of accountancy have final authority on the acceptance of individual courses for CPE credit.
